Larry Engel
Artist Statement:
​
“During the 1970's and 1980's, I had the opportunity to make illustrations for articles, editorials and columns for the New York Times, with consent to take my own positions on the issues. My intention was to illustrate absurdity with absurdity. ‘Letting The Craft Show’ is a large selection of the original drawings that were submitted on deadline and subsequently returned to me. They are unembellished."

Biography:
​
1960’s Studied painting drawing and advertising design at The Chicago Academy of Fine Art, and The Los Angeles Art Center College of Design. Served in U.S. Navy during Cuban Missile Crises and Vietnam War. Art Director & Designer in NYC advertising agencies: Doyal, Dane, & Bernbach, Smith Greenland, Spade and Archer.

1970’s Published editorial illustrations ( 15 year span ) at The New York Times,, Psychology Today Magazine. Studio work includes The Self Portrait Show: 365 Pieces, Abstract Graphite Drawing Series 200 Pieces.
1980’s Freelance graphic design and illustration work. Studio work included Jamaica Series, paintings and Drawings, Surrealism Series, paintings and collage, completed the NY Ski line Painting, and began the Small Works and bronze sculpture project.
1990’s Traveled in Spain and England and collected “stuff” for Small Works pieces. Moved to The Catskill Mountains with Family. Continues to paint sculpt draw design make music and Fly Fishing.
